Goodbye Google Academy for Ads, Hello Skillshop

20191017 -- Google Skillshop -- 400

Looking to get your Google Ads certifications? You won’t find them at Academy for Ads. It has been replaced with Skillshop, Google’s new on-demand, online training and certification portal for Google products. The new interface for Skillshop is fresh, revamped, and ready to teach you how to use Google products effectively.

There are currently certifications for nine different products available in Skillshop:

  • Google Ads
  • Android
  • Authorized Buyers
  • Google Ad Manager
  • Google AdMob
  • Analytics Academy
  • Google Digital Academy
  • Google Marketing Platform
  • Google My Business
  • Google for Education
  • Waze
Google Skillshop’s new Google Ads pathways.

Focusing on the Google Ads pathway, Skillshop features exams that have been totally revamped with new questions and formats. Multi-part and matching questions are now being used, as opposed to the traditional multiple-choice and true-or-false questions of the past.

There’s also a new diagnostic assessment on each module enabling you to test how well you know the topic before you take the certification assessment. It’s a handy way to identify any areas you may need to focus on learning more about before you take the assessment.

Google has also decided to remove the “Fundamentals” and “Mobile” exams needed for certification. In their place, they have introduced a brand new “Google Ads – Measurement” exam, which teaches and tests on the basics of measuring digital ad performance. This new exam is necessary for Google Ads certification, even for those who have been certified previously.

Within the Google Ads learning pathway, there are also modules for “Google Ads Certifications,” “Google Ads Search,” “Google Ads Display,” “Google Ads Video,” and “Shopping Ads.”

Skillshop is free, and can be accessed any time and completed at your own pace after registration.

The new Skillshop platform is an excellent way for anyone who works with Google Ads to learn about the platform, whether you plan to manage the platform on your own or work with an agency to manage it for you.
